DevOps Engineer – Enterprise System Migration (EPN Consultant)

Overview: EPN is actively seeking an exceptional DevOps Engineer to serve as a consultant for a major public sector client undergoing a critical infrastructure transformation. This role is integral to a high-impact migration project, transitioning a vital enterprise timekeeping and payroll interface system from a cloud environment to a robust, in-house, on-premise infrastructure. This significant transformation supports a substantial expansion of the user base, replacing outdated manual processes with a streamlined, scalable digital solution. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the seamless deployment, optimal performance, and unassailable security of this foundational system.

Key Responsibilities & Strategic Impact: Your mission, as an EPN consultant, involves leading and executing critical infrastructure initiatives to ensure system resilience and operational excellence:

• Component Deployment & Configuration: Lead the implementation and configuration of hardware and software packages required to deploy critical project components, including but not limited to SQL Server, LaserFiche, AccuRoute, TIENET, Dynatrace, and .NET web servers and applications.
• Performance Optimization: Gather and analyze requirements, design and deploy necessary components, and rigorously troubleshoot and optimize configurations to maximize the performance and throughput of client-hosted systems.
• System Administration & Support: Investigate application problems and issues, perform root cause analysis, develop and execute action plans for resolution, resolve problems and issues, and meticulously document solutions. Develop and update system administration procedures, collaborating closely with business analysts, project analysts, and server operations teams.
• Architectural Analysis & Technology Adoption: Assist in the analysis of business requirements, identifying and implementing appropriate technologies to create effective solutions and optimize productivity. Research emerging technologies in Internet hardware and software, implementing proof-of-concept deployments and recommending their adoption.
• Server & Security Management: Install and configure server software, including Microsoft IIS, .NET Framework, SharePoint, SQL Server, SSRS, Cognos BI, TIENET, Laserfiche, Accu-Route, and Dynatrace AppMon. Manage the SSL certificate lifecycle and deployments across all web farms, neutralizing potential security vulnerabilities.

Mandatory Elite Qualifications: To join this high-performing team as an EPN consultant, candidates must demonstrate an unblemished record of success with the following:

• Microsoft IIS Mastery: A minimum of 8+ years of experience installing, configuring, and supporting Microsoft IIS versions 6.0, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, and 10 servers.
• PKI Infrastructure Expertise: A minimum of 6+ years of experience with deep understanding and implementation expertise of PKI infrastructure.
• Microsoft SQL Server Prowess: A minimum of 8+ years of experience and knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2014, and SQL 2016.
• SQL High Availability: A minimum of 8+ years of experience in designing and implementing MS SQL high availability clustering solutions.
• Microsoft Cloud Offerings: A minimum of 6+ years of experience in implementing and troubleshooting Microsoft Cloud offerings related to PaaS WebApps, PaaS DBs, IaaS, and networking components such as vNets, NSGs, Application Gateways, VPN gateways, Application Insight, and Desired State.
• Document Management Systems: A minimum of 6+ years of administration and maintenance experience in document management systems like LaserFiche, including Quickfields, Workflow, and other application integration components.
• Windows Active Directory: A minimum of 8+ years of experience troubleshooting Windows Active Directory.
• Distributed Web Application Troubleshooting: A minimum of 6+ years of expertise in troubleshooting distributed internal and public-facing Web Applications and Web services with Oracle, IBM DB2, and MS SQL backend DBs.
• Authentication Mechanisms: A minimum of 6+ years of experience implementing various authentication mechanisms for applications using different options available for web-based applications.
• Web Server Design & Implementation: A minimum of 8+ years of experience in designing and implementing web servers.
• F5 Load Balancing/Reverse Proxy: A minimum of 8+ years of experience with F5 load balancing and reverse proxy configuration.
• Overall Application Design & Integration: A minimum of 8+ years of experience in overall application design and integration.
• Windows/SQL Clustering: A minimum of 8+ years of experience with Windows/SQL clustering.

Preferred Strategic Advantages: Candidates possessing these additional qualifications will be prioritized for their enhanced strategic value:

• Load Balancing Mastery: Strong working knowledge of load balancing technologies.
• Authentication/Authorization: Understanding of authentication/authorization mechanisms like OAuth2, OpenID, and SAML.
• Virtualization & Infrastructure: Deep understanding of virtualization technologies, storage, and networking backend infrastructure.
• PowerShell Automation: Expertise in creating and troubleshooting PowerShell scripts, with experience in automating day-to-day tasks using PowerShell.
• DevOps Integration: Knowledge of managing and integrating on-prem TFS and cloud-based VSTS with Azure Web Apps.

Logistics & Operational Cadence (EPN Consultant Engagement):

• Work Arrangement: This role is primarily remote . However, occasional on-site presence may be required in the NYC area, specifically within the five boroughs, as determined by the client.
• Interview Process: Initial evaluations will be conducted via Zoom or Microsoft Teams .

• Engagement Duration: This is an immediate requirement ("ASAP"), with an expected contract duration of up to 12 months .

• Work Week: Standard work hours are approximately 35 hours per week , with potential for off-hours, weekend, or holiday work as dictated by project demands to ensure mission success. EPN consultants will utilize the client's internal system for timekeeping, invoicing, and payment purposes, ensuring a streamlined administrative process.
